Man sought after elderly couple attacked in Marion

Couple headed to church attacked

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County deputies said they are looking for a man who attempted to rob a woman and battered her husband Sunday morning in a purse-snatching.

The attack occurred in Kangaroo parking lot at Highway 441 and 35th Street at around 10 a.m. Sunday just after the man made a purchase inside of the store.

Investigators said the couple stopped for gas on their way to church when the man grabbed the 82-year-old woman's purse.

The victim didn't let go and he dragged her to the ground, whipping her around as he tried to get the purse, deputies said.

According to investigators, the woman's 85-year-old husband jumped in and was also injured by the attacker.

Deputies said the man gave up and ran off without the purse.

The man is described as having a mustache and goatee and was wearing what appears to be a sports jersey.

Deputies are asking anyone with information on the identity of the purse snatcher to call Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP.
