Body found off International Drive in Orlando

Father, son discover body in woods; Death ruled homicide

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orange County deputies are investigating a homicide after a body was found off International Drive.

Deputies said that a man's body was discovered late Sunday in a wooded area owned by Marriott in the 11600 block of International Drive, not far from SeaWorld Orlando.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said on Monday that the death was ruled a homicide.

The victim, who has not been identified, was a Hispanic man, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 175 pounds.  Deputies said he had a surgical scar on his stomach.

Jeff Mahanes and his 17-year-old son, who are vacationing in Central Florida from North Carolina, found the body as they were walking to a nearby area to go fishing.

"It was a little shocking, not to say the least. Not something you expect to see, of course," says Mahanes.

Authorities have not said how long they believe the body was there.

Anyone with information about the death is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
