FHP: Man run over, killed by several cars in Orange County hit-and-run

Troopers investigate fatal Orlando crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man trying to walk across Hiawassee Road in Orlando on Monday night was hit by a pickup truck, which sent him into the southbound lanes, where he was run over by multiple vehicles -- but some of the drivers involved took off, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said it wants to talk to anyone who thinks he or she might have run over the man, who has been identified as 64-year-old Micahel Gensler from Orlando.

The hit-and-run wreck happened about 8:10 p.m. on Hiawassee Road near Laurel Hill Drive, in Orange County, according to Sgt. Kim Montes, of the FHP.

Gensler traveled directly into a truck's path, and the driver, 54-year-old Anthony Fulse, couldn't avoid hitting him, troopers said. Gensler was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

The driver of the northbound pickup truck who first hit the man stayed at the scene and waited to talk to police.

Another driver, Cherene Sylvester, 42, of Orlando, was also unable to stop in time. She was behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima heading south when she ran over Gensler, the FHP said.

Sylvester pulled off to the side of the road and watched as multiple vehicles also ran the man over, the FHP said.

Anyone with information or who may have been involved is asked to call the FHP at 407-737-2213.
