George Zimmerman makes appearance at local gun show

Zimmerman shows up for meet and greet

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Arms Room, which booked George Zimmerman to make a guest appearance, held a gun show Saturday after their location in east Orange County backed out.

Zimmerman was scheduled to appear in another location, but, due to controversy, the show was moved to the gun shop.

Zimmerman is no stranger to controversy. The 30-year-old sparked a heated nationwide discussion about race as well as a debate over Florida's "stand your ground" law after he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in 2012. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain at the time, had a confrontation with the unarmed African-American teen after calling police to report a suspicious person. He later told police he shot Martin in self-defense.

In a much publicized trial last year, a six-person jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in Martin's death.
