ORLANDO, Fla. - A man was dragged by a train and then got stuck underneath it after walking into the path of the locomotive Friday evening -- but he was conscious when he crawled out as fire officials arrived, police said.

Investigators with the Orlando Police Department learned of the incident involving the pedestrian and the SunRail train at about 6:50 p.m.  The crash took place near Washington Avenue.

The man was on the north side of Washington Avenue when he walked east, right into the path of the southbound train, police said.

“The pedestrian was dragged and rolled under the train,” police said in a brief emailed statement. “When the train came to a stop, the pedestrian was stuck under the first train car, midway down the length of the car. Miraculously, he was conscious and crawled out from under the train as (officials from the Orlando Fire Department) arrived.”

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated. He’s now listed as stable.
