Orange County deputies bust 'sophisicated' heroin ring

More than a dozen arrested in drug bust

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Orange County deputies have busted what they call a "sophisticated" heroin ring near an elementary school on Wednesday morning, resulting in more than a dozen arrests.

Deputies served 14 arrest warrants and four search warrants at the Lake Downey Mobile Home Park off of North Dean Road, near Union Park Elementary.

The heroin ring sold about 2,000 bags of heroin a day, along with marijuana and cocaine, and made $10,000 a day, according to deputies.

A special agent with the DEA said most of the money that was sent back to Puerto Rico, where they believe this organization has ties.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings held a news conference after the arrests.

OCSO also brought extra deputies to secure nearby schools during the drug bust. More charges will be added because the bust happened near a school.
