Worker critical after falling at Orange County Convention Center

Man setting up ride at IAAPA convention falls

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies have identified the man who is in critical condition after he fell while working on a ride at the big IAAPA convention on Saturday.

Deputies said shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Toby Garcia, who is employed by Freeman Exposition services, was helping to set up a carnival ride in the south parking lot of the Orange County Convention Center.

While attempting to work on the ride, Garcia fell approximately 20 feet to the pavement below, deputies said.

He was transported by Orange County Fire and Rescue to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition, deputies said.

OSHA has been notified, deputies said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the independent contractor that was injured this morning while constructing an exhibit at the IAAPA Attractions Expo.  Our security team, Orange County Sheriff's Office and Fire and Rescue provided immediate assistance to the worker who was taken to ORMC.  An investigation into this incident is ongoing," officials said.
