Missing woman's boyfriend arrested in Fla. Keys

Deputies: Louis tried running from police

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A woman failed to come home from a court hearing, and her boyfriend was arrested after he tried running from police.

Osceola County Sheriff's deputies said Steven Louis, 28, was driving his girlfriend's car at 11 a.m. Friday when police tried making a traffic stop at mile marker 6 on U.S. 1. Louis led officers on a short chase before crashing into the water off of Big Coppitt Key, said deputies.

Louis is charged with fleeing from deputies and driving with a suspended license.

He was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center with minor injuries. Detectives look to question him in the disappearance of Nicole Fields, 26.

Fields' mother reported her daughter missing early Friday after she failed to return home from a court hearing at the Osceola County courthouse.

The custody hearing on Thursday was for a child Fields and Louis have together.

Deputies said Fields also failed to pick up her daughter from the babysitter, and that Louis threatened to hurt himself and told family and friends. Investigators believe Fields' life is in danger.
