Pet food recalled due to salmonella scare

'IAMS,' 'Eukanuba' among recalled brands

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Food and Drug Administration announced on Thursday a major recall of popular brands of pet food due to a possible health risk.

Proctor & Gamble says dozens of its IAMS and Eukanuba dry pet foods could be contaminated with salmonella.

Some of the affected products include IAMS ProActive Health, IAMS Healthy Naturals and Eukanuba bags for specific breeds. The recall includes both dog and cat food.

Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting, according to the FDA.

Customers who purchased any of the affected pet food are asked to stop using it immediately and call P&G at (800) 208-0172. Customers can also visit the web site for IAMS or Eukanuba.
