Family unharmed when car slams into house

Cars pushed into children's room of Davenport home

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Polk County deputies continue to search for a driver they said caused an accident that damaged a home.

Deputies were called to a home on Cottonwood Drive in Davenport around 2:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of an accident.

The family told Local 6 that a man was driving a pickup truck and swerved into their driveway before striking a car that was parked next to the house.  The car was pushed into the home, crashing into two bedrooms where family members, including a 2-year-old, were sleeping.  The toddler's crib was pushed across the room, a family representative said.

There was also a 4-year-old and a 12-year-old sleeping the same bedroom, officials said.

The family suffered only minor injuries and no one was taken to the hospital.

The family did have surveillance video and were able to capture someone on video driving away.

The family told Local 6 they cannot stay in their home and are now homeless because of the damage.

A fund has been set up at SunTrust Bank in the name of Angie McDonald to help the family recover.
