POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A man's decomposing body was found inside his home after relatives pressed his wife for information on his whereabouts, according to authorities.

Sheree has been with charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of tampering with evidence, authorities said.

Deputies said family members and a neighbor have inquired about James' whereabouts for the past three weeks.

Sheree provided several excuses for his absence, including that he was hunting, at the VA hospital, and working in the yard, deputies said.

Eventually, relatives went to the Peters residence to check on James, deputies said. Deputies said on Friday relatives confronted Sheree in the front yard of her home and asked about James. Sheree seemed nervous and then said she had to leave to get gas, authorities said.

After she left, the relatives went inside and found James' decomposing body laying on the ground, covered with a sheet, deputies said.

Deputies said they located Sheree at a hotel room in Dundee. She was in possession of crack cocaine, officials said.

Officials said Sheree has given deputies several different accounts of how James died, saying he was shot while the two of them were struggling with a gun.

Sheree told authorities the gun was still in the house, detectives said. However, detectives did not locate it in a search. When asked again where the gun was, Sheree then told detectives she sold the gun for crack cocaine, deputies said.

Deputies said James and Sheree Peters have both been in the Polk County Jail on domestic violence charges against each other.

Sheree was arrested in July 2010, September 2010, and January 2012, for domestic violence against James.

James was arrested in June 2006, September 2009, and March 2010, for domestic violence against Sheree.
