Driver hits cop car in 10-mile chase

Man continued driving after tires slashed

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - A man led law enforcement on a chase through Seminole County after a traffic stop early Friday.

Altamonte Springs Police said an officer initiated a traffic stop on the driver around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Central Parkway.

As the officer approached the car, the driver sped away.

Minutes later another police officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver backed into the patrol car and continued driving east on State Road 434.

While the driver continued to flee, Longwood Police began to follow and deployed stop sticks in an attempt  to disable the vehicle.

Instead of stopping, the man continued driving through the streets of Seminole County on the rims of his shredded tires.

Seminole County deputies caught up to the driver near the intersection of  SR-434 and Wekiva Springs Parkway where the man finally stopped.

Deputies then smashed the driver's window and pulled the man out of his car.  He was taken to the Seminole County Jail after being treated on scene for minor injuries.

Altamonte Springs Police said the driver was on probation for drug charges, but it's unknown why he fled from police.
