MIAMI - Subtropical Storm Melissa has formed in the central Atlantic.
The storm's maximum sustained winds Monday are near 50 mph (85 kph) with some strengthening forecast. The storm is expected to transition to a tropical storm by Tuesday.
Melissa is centered about 695 miles (1,120 kilometers) east-southeast of Bermuda and is moving northwest near 9 mph (15 kph).
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said large swells from the storm are already affecting parts of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas.
Meanwhile, a weak front will move into Central Florida late Monday, bringing comfortable conditions to the region.
