Teen found guilty of trying to kill transgender

Arrested teen held for sentencing, unrelated charges

TAMPA, Fla. - A Tampa teen accused of trying to kill a transgender man has been found guilty of attempted murder.

Tavares Spencer was tried as an adult on charges that included attempted first-degree felony murder, attempted second-degree murder and robbery. His trial began Monday. He was found guilty on Thursday.

Tampa police said the 16-year-old met up with Terrience McDonald in April and shot him.

Police said detectives determined that the teen shot the 23-year-old McDonald because he was a man who dressed like a woman.

Hillsborough County jail records show he's being held until sentencing and faces several other charges for an unrelated arrest.
