Video shows bird shattering airplane windshield

Pilot lands plane safely despite broken windshield

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A Florida pilot plans to return to the sky after a bird shattered his windshield mid-flight.

"It was a slap in the face," said pilot Rob Weber, who was flying over Fort Myers.

Weber was flying his plane when the bird, which looked like a hawk, slammed into the window. The impact caused plastic and feathers to fly into Weber's face.

"I was doing about 170 (mph) when it hit," Weber explained, "The glass was flying, the feathers were flying."

Weber managed to land the plane safely. He said he already plans on getting back in the air after his plane is repaired.
