Video shows officer's rollover crash

Police: Sleeping driver slammed into patrol car

JUPITER, Fla. – Dashboard camera video captured the moments from inside a Florida police car when a sleeping driver slammed into the car, causing it to roll several times.

Jupiter police posted the video to its YouTube channel to remind drivers to stay off the roads when tired. Officers also say the video proves seat belts save lives.

Police say the officer was driving north on I-95 after leaving the Palm Beach County jail. Suddenly, a car traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed passed the officer and slammed into the median.

The car then swerved in front of the officer's patrol car, causing it to crash and subsequently roll over several times.

The powerful impacts of the rollovers can be heard in the video. After the patrol car comes to a stop, someone can be heard shouting "Are you alright?" from outside of the patrol car.

Jupiter police say the officer did not suffer any significant injuries because he was wearing his seat belt.

The driver was cited for failure to maintain a single lane.
