NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - Beach Patrol officials believe they have recovered the body of a missing swimmer Sunday night.

Volusia County officials said they looked for the man who went missing off the coast Sunday afternoon for hours.

Sunday night, they responded to reports of a body washing ashore.

Officials said the man went missing around 12:36 p.m. in New Smyrna Beach, near the Flagler Avenue approach.

Volusia County Beach Patrol started an extensive search on foot and jet ski and called in the Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter and Coast Guard to help by boat.

The search was called off for a brief time because of storms in the area, but resumed when the storms passed.

The missing man was identified as Debrice Dzoyem, 25, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dzoyem was reportedly trying to assist a friend who was struggling in the surf when he got caught in a rip current and was not seen resurfacing, officials said.
