Beachgoers beware: Jellyfish stings on the rise

High number of jellyfish stings reported

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County Beach Patrol officials said they treated over 200 jellyfish stings on Friday and Saturday and that number is expected to rise.

Beach Patrol officers said they treated 90 stings on Friday and 151 stings on Saturday.

Officials said the conditions of jellyfish washing up on Volusia County beaches will continue through Sunday.

Both Brevard and Volusia County officials told beach goers to use caution while in the water and to avoid the jellyfish.

Lifeguards have raised a purple flag and have vinegar treatments at towers ready to treat anyone who has been stung.
