Daytona Beach police report 3 road rage gun incidents

'We ended up having some choice words, he decided to pull a gun on me,' man says

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Daytona Beach Police Department has reported three separate road-rage incidents over the past week involving a driver pulling a gun on another driver.

The first incident was Aug. 7 at the intersection of Nova Road and Mason Avenue. A man told police that he had gotten into a verbal argument with someone driving a black Chevy Malibu at a stop light. The man driving the Malibu pulled out what the victim said was a black and silver semi-automatic handgun. Officers were not able to locate the vehicle.

"Basically, he was almost leaning into my window at one point, with the gun," Alan Freeman said.

Freeman, 35, was on his way to work last Monday when he said a man cut him off at Mason Avenue and Nova Road.

"We ended up having some choice words. He decided to pull a gun on me," said Freeman.

Freeman said the situation only escalated from there.

"He started trying to ram my vehicle with his car. Even as we were riding, he was pointing the gun at me," he said.

At one point, Freeman thought the gun couldn't have been real.

"This is broad daylight, two in the afternoon and here he is just riding with a gun," said Freeman.

However, eight minutes into the argument, Freeman's opinion about the gun quickly changed.

"When I see him cock the gun itself, that's when I realized that I was actually in danger and at that point, I dialed 911."

Police said Freeman was one of three drivers who had a gun pulled on them last week. Two other incidents happened on Nova Road, one involving a woman pulling a gun on a mother with two kids in the backseat, after she accidentally cut her off.
The second incident was reported Aug. 8 when a woman and her children
pulled onto South Nova Road from Orange Avenue and noticed a black GMC Sierra pickup truck.
The driver told police that she realized that she may have cut the vehicle off.
Once the two vehicles hit the intersection on West International Speedway Boulevard and South Nova Road, the driver in the truck rolled down her window and said, "What the (expletive) is wrong with you?"

The victim told police that she replied to the pickup driver, "I understand you're mad, but please don't disrespect me like that, we can talk if you want to outside of the vehicle."
The victim then told police the pickup driver brandished a black semi-automatic handgun, pointed it and yelled "I don't fight with my hands." The victim then followed the pickup truck to get its tag information. The victim told police that she and her two children feared for their safety.
The driver is described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic female in her late 20s or early 30s. Police attempted to locate the driver of the pickup truck but they were unable to.
Authorities said they're looking for three suspects and are still investigating.

"It influences me a lot to actually want to move back to Ft. Lauderdale. I feel safer back down there than I do up here. It's very crazy around this area," said Freeman.

In the incident Aug. 11 on Mason Avenue and North Nova Road, a man and his girlfriend were trying to stop at the KFC on Mason Avenue on North Nova Road. When he exited the KFC parking lot he pulled in front of a red Chevy Camaro. The victim told police that he believes the driver intentionally tried to speed up to prevent him from getting in the turn lane.

The victim told police that he stuck his middle finger up at the Camaro driver as they approached the intersection of Nova Road and Brentwood Drive. The couple told police that the other driver rolled down the passenger window and pointed a black pistol at them, saying, "What's that (expletive) that you was talking?"

Police were unable to locate the driver and the vehicle.
