Entered in contest with Keeping K-9s in Kevlar

DeLand, Fla. – Humans aren't the only ones that need an extra hand when combating crime.

The DeLand Police Department has entered their K-9, Daro, in a contest to get him his very own bullet-resistance vest.

A Washington-based non-profit organization called Keeping K-9s in Kevlar is administering the contest on Facebook for one week (July 21-28). The top three dogs who receive the most likes will get a K-9 Storm Patrol SWAT Kevlar vest, according to the release.

To win the contest, the police department is asking the public for help.

“K-9 officer Daro is an important part of the DeLand Police Department family,” said police Chief Jason Umberger. “A vote for Daro could potentially save his life and the lives of one of our officers or one of our citizens. So please vote for Daro by liking his picture on Facebook.”

The City of DeLand has shared Daro's picture on the city's Facebook page.
