Fatal accidents plague Florida roadways

Troopers, police busy with fatal accidents

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Local police agencies and the Florida Highway Patrol were kept busy over the holiday weekend as they investigated a slew of fatal accidents.

Florida Highway Patrol said four people died in three separate accidents in Volusia County Saturday, while two more died in an accident on Interstate 4 Saturday morning.

The accidents varied from a wrong way driver that killed two people early Saturday morning on Interstate 4 at Princeton Avenue to a fatal RV accident that killed a driver Saturday afternoon on Interstate 95.

Troopers said 64-year-old William Constant of Middleberg died after a tire on his RV separated, forcing him off the road and catching the RV on fire.

Troopers said that RV fire also started a brush fire that had the road shut down for several hours.

Troopers said 52-year-old William Pell and his passenger, 33-year-old Tiffany Sams were killed Saturday night after the car Pell was driving went off the road and struck a tree in Osteen.

Also killed was 32-year-old Megan Kirk after she lost control of her vehicle and overturned, ejecting her on Mission Road late Saturday evening, troopers said.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were out on Sunday enforcing traffic laws looking to ticket speeders and aggressive drivers.
