Man finds device in garbage, homes evacuated

Bomb squad responding to investigate device

SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. – Volusia County deputies said they investigated a possible destructive device that was found in the trash.

Deputies said they were called out to the Waters Edge Mobile Home park at 2800 South Ridgewood Avenue in South Daytona around 7:55 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies said the call came from a man who reported finding something in the trashed that he thought could be a bomb.

Deputies said they are evacuating some residents as a precaution while their bomb squad responds to the call.

Deputies  shut down a small portion of Ridgewood Avenue, which is also known as U.S. 1 as a precaution but re-opened it at 10 p.m.

Deputies said the device was contained by the bomb squad.
