DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona Beach Fire Department and the Teco Gas Company arrived at the scene Saturday for a gas leak just south of Aerospace Boulevard and north of Bellevue Road Extension, officials said.

Firefighters said they were called to a possible gas leak just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the newly constructed south entrance of Embry-Riddle University.

A road construction company that was paving the new entrance struck a 6-inch feeder line with equipment, authorities said.

Officials said fire crews quickly determined the leak would need to be controlled and stop by Teco Gas Company.

Fire crews alerted Teco Gas and began to secure and limit access to the hazardous area with assistance from Daytona Beach Police, officials said.

Firefighters said Clyde Morris Boulevard south of International Speedway Boulevard to the Bellevue Road Extension was shut down in both directions due to the hazard.

Firefighters said they had no idea how long the roads would be closed. There were no evacuations.
