Gatorland opens up new exhibit featuring endangered panthers

Cats are a rare mix of Florida panther, Texas cougar

ORLANDO, Fla. - A warm-blooded attraction opened at Gatorland several days ago, featuring an endangered species of panthers.

A pair of sibling panthers named Neiko and Lucy arrived at the attraction after being raised in a rescue and rehab center by Florida conservationists for most of their lives.

The 7-year-old cats are a rare breed, a mix of the endangered Florida panther and a Texas cougar. The only breeding population of this species exists in portions of Florida's national parks.

The new exhibit at Gatorland features a waterfall and napping ledges for the panthers.
