Gay women say man pulled knife on them at Petco

Man arrested in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man faces a felony for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after two women say he threatened them at a Petco on East Colonial Drive and Bumby Sunday morning.

The women, who are in a same-sex relationship, said 20-year-old Alexander Ronquillo was backing out of a parking space when he became angry, thinking they had cut him off in their car.

Local 6 News spoke to one of the women, a 22-year-old, who didn't want us to use her name.

"He comes back around after we got out of the car and starts swearing at us and saying offensive things to someone who is a homosexual," she said.

They said he then pulled out a knife.

"It was scary," the woman said. "I couldn't believe it when he pulled out a knife."

They called 911 and as officers took down a police report, Ronquillo reappeared in his car and the women spotted him. Police quickly arrested him, charging him with aggravated assault for threatening to use the knife in an attack they said was motivated by prejudice.

Ronquillo bonded out of jail and no one answered the door when Local 6 went by his home.

The 22-year-old victim said she still doesn't feel safe in her own home, but she has compassion for the man who she said treated her with so much hate.

"Even after he threatened me, I hope he can rise above what he did and become a better person," she said.
