Gov. Rick Scott campaigns in Sanford for tax cuts

Scott says he wants to get rid of sales tax on manufacturing equipment

SANFORD, Fla. - Gov. Rick Scott campaigned for a bill in the legislature on Monday that would slash the sales tax on manufacturing equipment.

Scott spoke at Dot Decimal in Sanford and toured the health care equipment manufacturer on Monday morning, using the company's success and addition of recent jobs to campaign for the tax cuts.

Scott said the manufacturing taxes put Florida behind neighboring states that are competitors in attracting business.

"It's very important that we are able to get rid of the sales tax so we have more manufacturing jobs in this state," Scott said. "We have less than half the number per capita of manufacturing jobs in our state than other states around the country especially in our surrounding states."

Scott also said on Monday that he will sign the texting while driving ban and that he's happy with the plan to give teachers a $2,500 raise.
