Great Escape Room challenges locals in downtown Orlando

Visitors work as team solving puzzles to find way out of locked room

ORLANDO, Fla. - A new attraction is coming soon to downtown Orlando. It's called The Great Escape Room and it challenges visitors to work as a team solving puzzles to find a way out of the locked room.

Owner Howard Sakowitz said the concept comes from web-based games in which gamers must solve riddles and puzzles to escape a virtual room.

The real-life version in downtown Orlando is the first in Florida, according to Sakowitz. It's located at 23.5 Magnolia Ave.

Guests will enter an office-like room filled with desks, bookshelves and various small items. Teams of about 10 need to search for five sets of color-coded clues.

The clues then lead to puzzles or riddles; once answered, these will unlock objects needed to escape the room. The clock is set for one hour.

Sakowitz said The Great Escape Room is aimed at corporate groups as well as those with inquisitive minds.

Groups or individuals sign up online in advance at The cost is $29 per person and the attraction is set to open June 26.

The company plans to add two more rooms and the rooms are easily changed, so groups can have several different experiences.
