Heavy rains cause further Flagler Beach trouble

State Road A1A shut down for two blocks after heavy rains hit Orlando

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. – Less than a year after being damaged by Hurricane Matthew, state road A1A once again was damaged due to heavy rains. 

Due to rain pouring down last Friday, Flagler Beach police were forced to shut down two blocks of state road A1A, ranging from South 11th Street to South 13th Street.

The streets were detoured and the roadway re-opened that Friday night around 6:40 p.m., according to police.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the repairs made after the hurricane were temporary solutions. At the time, permanently fixing the road would have led to more delays and traffic for many months.

Instead, the Flagler Beach road will be permanently repaired, with construction starting in the fall of 2018.
