Cops: Helicopter crew catches teens casing cars near Disney attractions

3 teens arrested, provide info for more burglaries, deputies say

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Osceola County deputies tracked down three teens who are now charged with breaking into vehicles in the Formosa Gardens community.

The Formosa Gardens area is a community with lush landscapes and filled with vacationers.

Disney attractions are just 3 miles away. It's also an area some teens took advantage of this weekend, according to Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

"You want a safe neighborhood for your kids, your family to be raised, and a place to call home, and to know that someone is violating that, it's disturbing," said David Weber, who has lived in the area for the past five years.

Weber said he loves his neighborhood, but that the news about recent car break-ins is a bit alarming.

Jim Brawbaker said he's not too surprised to hear about it. Like Weber, he's lived in the area for five years.

"Not in this day in time. Not around Disney especially," Brawbaker said.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office began working to get results after multiple complaints were made about vehicle break-ins over the weekend.

Using their helicopter, they caught three teens walking to several vehicles to check to see if they were unlocked. They were caught burglarizing six vehicles.

A 14 and 15-year-old were arrested, along with George Cappello, 18. While in custody, they gave information to deputies that resulted in answers to more reported burglaries in the area.

"I think that's amazing," Weber said. "My hat's off to the authorities with Osceola County. We appreciate it and we don't take them for granted, that's for sure."
