Human remains found in Ocala National Forest identified

Deputies ID man as Thomas Lombardo

OCALA, Fla. – Human remains found buried last week in the Ocala National Forest have been identified as a man who was reported missing in January, according to deputies.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office identified the remains through a fingerprint as Thomas Lombardo, 44.

Deputies said they received a tip on Thursday that a body was possibly buried in the forest in an area off Forest Road 50. Detectives went to the area the next day and found the body in the grave.

Deputies said Lombardo's mother reported him missing on January 25, saying that she last had contact with him on January 14, when she was making arrangements for him to move to Melbourne.

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

Detectives are following leads into Lombardo's death, officials said.
