'I think a man just tried to kill me:' 911 calls released in rape near tourist district

Victim cries, pants in heavily redacted call

ORLANDO, Fla. – A heavily redacted 911 call shows the fear and panic in a woman's voice when she called 911 after Orlando police say she was raped and brutally beaten near the city's tourist district.

In the call made at 3:17 a.m. Nov. 27, the victim is panting and crying as she speaks to the operator.

"I think a man just tried to kill me. He raped me, he tried to strangle me, he took all my clothes, please help," the woman says.

The rest of the nearly eight-minute call is redacted. News 6 is choosing not to publish that call

One minute later, an employee at the hotel where the victim fled for help called 911 to make a report.

"Yeah, I have a lady at the front desk who is nude and the lady's crying, but my security is down here already," The Point Orlando employee said.

That two-minute call is also redacted.

Orlando police said the victim was visiting the area for a business trip and was walking on International Drive from a bar back to her hotel when a man, later identified as 31-year-old Joseph Thomas Paul Moore, started following her and eventually offered to show her a shortcut back to her hotel.

Moore led the victim to an open field in the 5900 block of Lakehurst Drive, punched her in the face and raped her, according to an arrest report. Police said Moore didn't even flinch when the victim bite him in the groin hard enough to draw blood.

The victim eventually was able to run away and call for help at The Point Orlando hotel.

Moore was arrested hours after the attack on charges of sexual battery, attempted sexual battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and aggravated battery. Police described him as a "violent sexual predator."
