Judge grants Bob Ward $1 million bond

Ward is awaiting new trial on second-degree murder charges

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Isleworth millionaire Robert “Bob” Ward was granted bond Friday while he awaits a second trial.

Ward is accused of second-degree murder in the 2009 death of his wife, Diane.

A Ninth Circuit Court judge set Ward’s bond at $1 million.

Ward was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the shooting death of his wife inside their mansion an appeals court reversed that conviction last year.

An Orange County judge heard arguments last month about whether Ward could be granted bond, while awaiting the re-trial. The judge asked to see financial reports of the Ward family trust before agreeing to grant his bond.

Ward's daughters said they would authorize the use of the family trust to pay their father's bond.

As part of the bond terms, the former Isleworth resident will not be permitted to leave Orange County and cannot stay with his daughter in Atlanta, Sean Ellsworth, Ward's attorney, told News 6.

Ellsworth said Ward could not be released Friday and that they are trying to determine where he will stay.

A date has not been set for Ward’s second trial.
