ORLANDO, Fla. – A judge denied a motion to dismiss the perjury case on Tuesday for the wife of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin.
Shellie Zimmerman, is charged with one count of perjury-lying under oath after the state alleges that she lied about her and George Zimmerman's finances during a bond hearing. Shellie Zimmerman was arrested and charged June 12 and released the same day after posting bond.

Shellie was in the courtroom on Tuesday as her attorney, Kelly Sims, asked for the dismissal of the case. Sims said the special prosecutor appointment on the Trayvon Martin case didn't cover Shellie Zimmerman's perjury. According to the executive order, the special prosecutor's powers were for "all matters pertaining to death of Trayvon Martin," so Sims said Shellie Zimmerman's charge isn't included.
The judge ruled that the special prosecutor had the jurisdiction to charge Shellie Zimmerman with perjury and a docket sounding will be held on April 17.
Her husband, George Zimmerman is charged with shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford on Feb. 26. George Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in Martin's shooting, claiming self-defense.
His trial is set to start in June 2013.
