Jury finds Tyrone Mosby guilty of attempted murder in shooting of Danielle Sampson

Mosby accused of shooting Danielle Sampson, leaving her in coma

ORLANDO, Fla. - The jury found Tyrone Mosby guilty on Friday on all counts, including attempted felony murder in the shooting of 16-year-old Danielle Sampson, leaving her in a coma.

Danielle was brought into the courtroom with her family for the verdict, which read Mosby was guilty of armed burglary, two counts of attempted felony murder, aggravated assault of firearm, aggravated battery, shooting from a vehicle and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

"Danielle is a fighter there's no way shed miss this day for the world," said Baje Fletcher, Danielle's sister. "She's a fighter so we wheeled her on in."

Mosby, wearing a suit coat, sat emotionless as the verdict was read. He was taken away in handcuffs.

Prosecutors said Mosby was in a shootout with Joseph when a bullet, intended for Joseph, hit Danielle.  Mosby was also found guilty of attempted murder in his shots fired at Joseph.

Danielle was 15 years old and a sophomore at Apopka High School when she and her family got caught in crossfire as they left church July 29 in their van.  Danielle was shot in the head by a stray bullet and now has severe brain damage.

"It's a bitter sweet day," said Danielle's mother, Alma Fletcher. "We're glad that justice has been served in this area, but it's not going to bring back my daughter the way we need her to be."

Police said Mosby, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, was one of several people who had burglarized a home and shot at the homeowner as they ran away.

Mosby faces up to life in prison. He will be held on no bail, pending the April sentencing.

Danielle's family says they hope this serves as a lesson on gun violence.

"I just have a word for the young people: to cease fire. Put away your weapon because weapon hurt family," said Danielle's father, Justin Fletcher.
