Orlando man chases down accused burglars, deputies say

Man detains suspect until authorities arrive

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man saw two men trying car-door handles in his neighborhood on Wednesday and chased down one of the suspects, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Scott Davis was alerted by his security system that his front camera caught movement at his home. When Davis turned on the video feed, he saw two men trying to open his car door handles on Mountain Lake Drive, according to the arrest report.

"I was working in my office and got an alert on my watch that someone had crossed the frame of my video camera, and I went and took a look at my iPad and saw that someone was actually, within seconds, was trying to access my vehicle," Davis said.

The two suspects ran away when the man confronted them about three houses away.

"They threw some garbage cans at me and ended up running between two houses, so I came back inside and was able to call 911 and get some shorts on," Davis said.

He went home, "put on some shorts and grabbed a flashlight" and chased one of the suspects on foot while he was on the phone with dispatchers, according to the report. He also said he grabbed one of his irons to use as protection.

The man was able to stop D'Juan Walton-Moore, 21, and detain him until Orange County deputies arrived.

"We did probably a 100-yard dash until he ran out of gas and finally gave up and laid down on the ground until the Sheriff's Office met me on north shore and they took him into custody," Davis said.

Deputies arrested Walton-Moore and booked him into the Orange County Jail. He is charged with attempted burglary and petit theft.

It's unclear if deputies ever found his friend, but on Thursday Walton-Moore had his first appearance.

"Sir, you're here on one count of burglary to a conveyance and one count of petit theft and you're also here on one count of attempted burglary on a conveyance," the judge said in court.

Davis said he's glad Walton-Moore is now in trouble for what he did, and said he has no regrets about chasing after him.

"My dad is a Chicago Bulls fan, and he always says, 'If you mess with the bull you get the horns,' jokingly, and 'If you come around here in the golf community, you're going to get the club,'" he said.
