Local girl battling cancer receives outpouring of support

Rylee's mailbox overflowing with messages

OVIEDO, Fla. – A local girl battling brain cancer asked for something simple: letters in the mail.

Since news of Rylee Bernoskys' request spread, hundreds of people have sent the 5-year-old girl letters, packages and messages of hope to her P.O. box in DeBary.

Her family set up the P.O. box in December, shortly after a trip to the doctor's office for headaches led to the discovery of a malignant tumor called medulloblastoma on Rylee's brain stem. Surgery to remove the tumor was successful, but Rylee will still need radiation and further treatment as she fights for a full recovery.

The community has rallied together to make the young girl smile.

"She gets the greatest joy from going to her mailbox and opening all the letters and without you all this wouldn't be possible," family wrote on the Rylee Bernoskys Journey Facebook page. "Thank you so very much from the bottom of our hearts."

Mail can be sent to Rylee at P.O. BOX 530095 DeBary, FL 32753-0095. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help pay for Rylee's treatment.
