Orlando organizations join forces after mass shooting at Pulse nightclub

Representatives for all central Florida LGBT agencies meet at The Center

Several people are injured in a shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida's service organizations and other community groups are working to help anyone in the central Florida area who is in need of help or counseling as a result of Sunday's early-morning mass shooting at Pulse.

The Metropolitan Business  Association, Hope and Help, Two Spirit Health, Zebra Coalition, Rollins, and various other GLBT organizations are meeting at The Center to provide help in any way along with grief counseling.

"We're offering a place where anyone can come in to grieve," said Lisa Barr, CEO of Hope and Help.

All of the organizations are sending volunteers to man phone and talk to people who may come into the Center. 

"Anyone who needs help, we're here,' Barr said.

The group released the following statement Sunday morning;

"We are saddened and shocked at the tragedy that took place overnight at Pulse Nightclub.  The Center is partnering with MBA, Hope and Help, Two Spirit Health, Zebra Coalition, Rollins, and various other GLBT organizations throughout Central Florida to coordinate an emergency hotline and grief counselors on site at The Center, located at 942 N Mills Avenue."

The Center released a statement that read: "We are saddened and shocked at the tragedy that took place overnight at Pulse Nightclub.  The Center is partnering with MBA, Hope and Help, Two Spirit Health, Zebra Coalition, Rollins, and various other GLBT organizations throughout Central Florida to coordinate an emergency hotline and grief counselors on site at The Center, located at 942 N Mills Avenue.When news broke of the tragedy, all of the resources from every GLBT organization in Central Florida sprung into action to organize our response.  We stand united to provide every resource to our friends and family in the wake of this senseless act. The community can call the hotline at 407-228-1446 and counselors will be on site at The Center throughout the day and week."

The UCF Police Department has set up the conference room at the Lake Nona Campus and will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to assist family members and or friends affected by the Pulse shooting.
