KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Kissimmee police said they arrested a man who did nothing to prevent a 4-year-old in his care from drowning in a pool Friday.

Police said 28-year-old Elijah Morton was taken into custody and charged with aggravated child neglect.

Police said Morton and his girlfriend Gwendolyn Henderson were here from Birmingham Alabama when they took nine children to the Coral Cay Townhomes pool yesterday.

Police said some of the children were Morton and Henderson's while others were relatives of Gwen's, including the 4-year-old victim.

Police said the child slid into the pool and was found five minutes later on the bottom of the pool unresponsive.

Police said Henderson attempted CPR, while Morton did nothing.

Police said Morton  told Henderson to stop and take the children back to the townhome.

Police said 911 was called and the 4-year-old  was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detectives interviewed Morton who stated he hadn't seen the young girl after she was in the kiddie pool at approximately 7:50 p.m., Friday, police said.

Morton was seen near the child between 7:55 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. when she was found at the bottom of the pool, police said.

Elijah Darnell Morton was transported to the Osceola County Jail.
