Apopka fires may be work of serial arsonist

Surveillance video captures man leaving fire scene

APOPKA, Fla. – Police think one person has been busy setting fires during the early morning hours in Apopka.

The latest fire sparked up early Wednesday near the corner of Lake Pleasant Road and Semoran Boulevard.

Just before 2:30 a.m. firefighters responded to a house fire at 310 Lake Pleasant Road where the rear part of the structure was engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to get the fire under control before it spread, but just minutes earlier another fire was set a couple blocks away, according to police.

Investigators say someone set two dumpsters on fire behind a business located at 380 Semoran Commerce Place.

According to police, surveillance video captured a man leaving the area around the same time that fire started.  Investigators believe that man may be responsible for both fires Wednesday and a fire that destroyed a home earlier this month.
