Barricaded gunman escapes police after Altamonte Springs standoff

Man making threats forces building evacuation

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Altamonte Springs police are searching for the man who they say barricaded himself in a home and escaped a standoff with police.

Police said the man was in an apartment at the Timberlake Apartments on Jamestown Boulevard at 8 p.m. Sunday and refused to comply with them.

The gunman's parents told police they were worried about him. When police arrived on scene, they met with the gunman's girlfriend who told them he was threatening to kill himself and anyone trying to get inside the apartment.

Police said as a precaution they evacuated three buildings and have shut down Jamestown Boulevard.

SWAT team members were called in to negotiate with the man.
