APOPKA, Fla. - A huge black bear caused a big stir at an Apopka convenience store Monday evening.

The bear climbed up a tree right next to the gas pumps at a 7-Eleven and parked itself there for over seven hours.

It happened at the 7-Eleven on the corner of State Road 436 and Thompson Road.

Dozens of people gathered at the store to watch the bear.

Finally, once it started getting dark outside, the bear climbed down, ran across the parking lot and jumped a fence. It eventually headed toward some woods near Wekiwa Springs State Park.

"I wanted him to come down and come this way so he didn't get out in that traffic and get hit, so it was a good, very good ending," said Jan Connery, a woman who watched the bear for several hours on Monday.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife officer estimates the bear is about 3 years old and weighs as much as 350 pounds.
