City leaders start project on improve reputation of Sanford

'Love Sanford' project comes after the death of Trayvon Martin

SANFORD, Fla. - A local group hoping to change the image of Sanford in the wake of the Trayvon Martin death launched their own PR campaign  called the "Love Sanford" project.

The group plans to focus on community projects helping fix homes and yards and spend more time with the youth.

The Sanford city manager, commissioner Mark McCarty and nearly two dozen other community members announced the new project Wednesday morning.

Pastor John Murphy at Harvest Time International said there's a lot of work that needs to be done in the city to change the way people perceive Sanford.

"Trayvon Martin died, it was a wake up call," Murphy said. He said the city needs to come together and stop pointing fingers at officials.
