Investigators: Armed robber demands money, cigarettes at Kangaroo Express

DELTONA, Fla. – A lone gunman held up a convenience store in Deltona Friday night, getting away with some cigarettes and an undetermined amount of money, according to authorities.

The 26-year-old clerk at the Kangaroo Express on Doyle Road said the robber pointed a gun at him and demanded money and cigarettes, deputies said.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office said the incident was reported at 9:30 p.m.

Authorities said patrol deputies and K-9 units arrived at the scene within about three minutes. Deputies said they set up a perimeter and searched for the suspect.

The suspect wore dark pants, a dark hoodie-style sweater, gloves and a bandana covering his face, deputies said.

After the clerk complied with the robber's demands, investigators said the suspect ran from the store heading east towards Saxon Boulevard. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect and said they believe he fled the area in an awaiting getaway car.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Volusia County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida toll-free at (888) 277-TIPS. Residents can also text a tip by sending "TIP231" (plus the message) to CRIMES.

Tipsters who provide information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000, deputies said.
