DELTONA, Fla. - Volusia County deputies said a Deltona man is facing a burglary charge after he was accused of walking into a stranger's house and sneaking into a 43-year-old woman's bedroom.
Deputies said they arrested 26-year-old Eliel Rodriguez after he fled out of the house, but returned to the house a second time.
Deputies said the incident happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday at a home on East Normandy Boulevard.
Deputies said Rodriguez is accused of entering the house through a garage door and then sneaking quietly into the victim's bedroom.
Deputies said the victim told them she was in bed, but still awake, when she noticed the intruder standing by a dresser where she kept some valuables.
Deputies said when she asked what he was doing, the man appeared confused and exited the bedroom, however, the victim's 20-year-old son and two of his friends were in the backyard at the time.
After the friends saw the stranger enter the house, all three went inside to confront him just as he was walking away from the victim's bedroom, deputies said.
The three told the man to leave, so he did, but shortly afterwards, the suspect was spotted again at the front of the house, yelling obscenities and trying to provoke a fight with the victim's son, deputies said.
Deputies arrived at 12:51 a.m., two minutes after the incident was called in to the Sheriff's Office, and immediately took Rodriguez into custody, officials said.
Deputies said Rodriguez was charged with unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $2,500 bond.
