Drowsy driver hits pole, tree

SR-46 reopened after crash

SANFORD, Fla. - Several lanes of a major road were blocked early Wednesday after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 46 and Rinehart Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver was heading north on Rinehart Rd after a long work shift when he began to doze off.

After falling asleep, the driver continued through the intersection as he crashed into a power support pole, several road signs, and a tree.  The crash left the support line dangling just a few feet above the road, but power was not affected in the area.

Troopers said the driver was not injured and will likely not be cited for the accident.

Power crews worked throughout the morning to replace the damaged pole, but traffic was not affected in the area.
