Dyer to give Solar Bears key to the city

Solar Bears to be honored after 10-year hibernation

ORLANDO, Fla. – For returning professional hockey to the Orlando, the Orlando Solar Bears will be presented the key to the city by Mayor Buddy Dyer.

The key will be presented Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. at Orlando City Hall to Solar Bears coach Drake Berehowsky. The event is open to the public.

The Solar Bears competed in the International Hockey League from 1995-2001 before the league collapsed in 2001. After a 10-year hiatus, the Solar Bears will compete in the ECHL and play its games in the Amway Center.

The ECHL in one of two professional minor leagues recognized by the NHL. The Solar Bears are the ECHL affiliate to the Minnesota Wild.
