Police pursuing man after Walgreens robbery

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police say a man flashed a knife at a pharmacist, demanded prescription pain medication and crashed his car into a ditch while fleeing, according to Local 6 partner Florida Today.

At about 11 a.m., officers responded to Walgreens at the corner of Eau Gallie Bouelvard and Wickham Road for a reported robbery: a man brandishing a knife demanded prescription pain medication, got some and left.

Nobody was injured during the robbery.

Officer Jim O'Byrne was in the area and saw the suspect leaving the pharmacy. O'Byrne confronted him, but the man ran to a 1997 green Chevy pickup truck parked nearby and drove off.

Officers pursued him. He crashed into a ditch about two miles away near Turtlemound Road and Carolwood Drive.

Police arrested Wayne Parker Jr., 46, and found evidence from the robbery in his car, according to a release. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries from the crash. Once released he'll be booked at Brevard County jail on charges including armed robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and fleeing and eluding.
