DELAND, Fla. - A central Florida man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for driving drunk and killing two bikers during Biketoberfest 2011.

A Volusia County judge sentenced 55-year-old Al R. Hopkins to two consecutive 15-year terms Thursday after a jury convicted him of two counts of DUI manslaughter.

Authorities say a married couple, 40-year-old Randall D. Allen and 44-year-old Laura J. Allen, were riding their motorcycle in Port Orange in October 2011, when Hopkins turned his pick-up truck into their path, causing the crash. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that blood tests showed Hopkins had a blood alcohol level of 0.345 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08.

Hopkins' attorney argued that the Allens were also drunk, which prevented Randall Allen from avoiding the truck.
