SANFORD, Fla. - A man in a wheelchair was hit near the intersection of County Road 46A and Lamplighter Road in Sanford, police said.

Police said a man aged 45-50 was hit around 8:15 p.m. Friday by a Nissan in the westbound lanes of 46A.

Seminole County Fire Rescue took the man to a local hospital, where he later died.

Sanford Police Department Traffic Homicide closed County Road 46A for about three hours to investigate the accident.

Police said it is unclear if weather or drinking was a factor at this point.

"The man in the wheelchair was trying to cross the road. Checking on positive ID and next-of-kin notifications," said Sanford Police Public Information Officer Shannon Cordingly.

No charges have yet to be filed.
