DeLAND, Fla. - A man was airlifted to a hospital early Thursday after being struck in the head with a machete during a fight in Volusia County, according to officials.
The fight took place at the Sha-De-Land Mobile Home Park near South Woodland Boulevard in DeLand.
According to DeLand police, two men, later identified as Luis Torres and Kenneth Flores, got into a fight around 4 a.m. inside a home in the 100 block of Oak Street.
According to a DeLand police report, Torres, his wife and Flores played pool at Stingrays II and went home when the bar closed.
Torres' wife said she went to bed, but Flores invited her husband over to have a drink, the police report stated.
Flores, however, said Torres walked over to his house and began acting strangely, making fun of items in his home before grabbing and jumping on him, according to police.
Flores said he told Torres to get off him, but he wouldn't, according to police, who added that Flores then grabbed his machete and struck Torres on the head in self-defense.
Torres ran home with multiple cut wounds and was "bleeding everywhere," the police report stated.
Flores went to a nearby home and asked his neighbors to call 911, police said.
Flores, who was also bleeding, told his neighbors that he had just cut someone with a machete, police said.
Torres was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center in serious condition. Flores was later taken to an area hospital for an apparent hand injury.
Police say no arrests have been made because its still not clear who the aggressor was.
"You got to look at all the facts before you just start making arrests and we just don't know yet," Sgt. Chris Estes with the Deland Police Department said Thursday.
Police say Torres is undergoing surgery and could survive the serious injuries.
Sha-De-Land Mobile Home Park offers bi-weekly and monthly rentals, according to its website.
